[DESCRIPT]Dietary Supplement. Vaccinium Standardized to Anthocyanosides 36%. During waking hours the eye is continuously exposed to oxygen, light, smoke, pollutants, and chemicals. The resultant oxidative processes and decreased antioxidant capacity are implicated in many eye-related problems. On the other hand, several vitamins, minerals, carotenes, and flavonoids have been shown to support vision and the health of the eye. Ocu-Clear AREDS Plus contains key nutrients and plant extracts that promote eye health. Named after the National Eye Institute's Age Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS) this formula consists of the same general nutrients and quantities used in the study – beta carotene, vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc, and copper – and then adds other key nutrients, including selenium, lipoic acid, glutathione, and vitamin B6, all of which are vital components of the antioxidant capacity of the retina and lens of the eye. Plant extracts can also provide important support for the eye. Lutein and zeaxanthin are vital components of the macula and can provide antioxidant protection to this area of the retina. Vaccinium myrtillus (bilberry extract) is an excellent source of anthocyanoside flavonoids, which have an affinity for the retina. In addition to their antioxidant activity, these flavonoids support the eye's connective tissues and blood vessels.
